One brilliant young and bold IAS Officer - single handedly -without fear for her life- in line of duty- went ahead to take the most powerful sand Mafia of the Uttar Pradesh heads on. In few days she confiscated more than sixty trailers carrying the sand illegally and arrested around one hundred people involved in the criminal activity spreading such a panic in the Dons that they had to seek recourse to the Chief Minister to stop her and oust her from her post. The State Government under such pressure from the Mafia had to find an excuse to suspend her because the State Government itself is the God father of the Mafia and partner in the crime. So it invented a case of charging her with inconceivable and fictitious plot of demolishing a wall around a cemetery which had already been demolished by locals leading to suspending her. This bizarre act of State crime against her was justified by the State saying that her act of demoishing the wall (which was never there) could have created communal unrest. But they never took in account the powers vested in IAS officers like he by the Supreme court that she was protected under the Supreme court itself which empowered her to demolish any illegal structure on the State land in line of her duty. The Uttar Pradesh IAS Officers Union which was aware of her rights came to her rescue and challenged the act of State government of suspending her.
Soon the media took over and she was forcefully defended and this gathered a massive support for her from the public and social networks and NGOs standing for her. Later the facts that came to surface exposed the State Government of falsely accusing her for the act by fabricating the case with untrue story of her demolishing such illegal structure that never existed. The matter is just days old and already the support from all across the country has put this brave young woman in invincible position putting the State Government and the Sand Mafia on a back foot. Now there is every chance of the State Government being accused of protecting the criminal and destroying the career of this young IAS offer and may have no grounds to defend itself. I think it becomes a moral duty of all the citizens to defend her unitedly and urge the prominent lawyers to take up her case, file PLI in Supreme court against the State Government. Unfortunately the Government has kept its lips sealed and have not uttered a single word in her favour or against the State because the Centre in election mode will not like to ruffle the feathers of the State Government which is its potential ally . Will it not be better to write to prominent Social service groups and the Legal doyens like Ram Jethmalani, Mahesh Jethmalani to take up this with the Central Government and the Supreme court to see that the provisions of the service of IAS officers must be revised making them safe from the pressures of the state governments and give them powers to do their duty with diligence and without fear of being punished by the state whenever they try to take on the criminals and mafia protected by State. This will ensure curtailing the State Government's power of transferring, demoting, suspending the IAS officers at their whims and fancy who do not toe their lines without justification and without following the rules and procedures laid out to act against them. I hope that each one of us must support her. It is time for the people of the country to act and not limit themselves to mere lip-sympathy. If we do that we will ourselves be encouraging the criminals. Please circulate this to all you have on your mailing list. Do whatever you can to help this cause for your own good and good of the country and good governance.
